Fight leaves St. Albans inmate in critical condition

ST. ALBANS — Authorities are still investigating an incident that took place in St. Albans last month.

On December 22, police say they were notified of an altercation involving two inmates at the Northwest State Correctional Facility that one of the individuals with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred in a cell occupied by Jeffrey Hall, 55, of St. Albans, and Mbyayenge Mafuta, 21, of South Burlington.

Hall suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Mafuta was uninjured.

As of Thursday, Hall remained in critical condition at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

Police say the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
