VERNON — A 35-year-old woman was cited following a crash with a school bus in Vernon on Wednesday.

Authorities were notified of a crash on the railroad tracks on Newton Road at around 4:20 p.m.

According to the report, Kimberly Winter, 53, of Brattleboro, had parked the bus prior to the railroad crossing to listen for an oncoming train when Jessica Baldwin, of Vernon, came from the opposite direction, crossed the train tracks, and side-swiped the bus.

The vehicle then went off the road and crashed into a tree.

Police say the bus had a moderator and one juvenile passenger onboard.

Nobody was injured.

Troopers met with Baldwin at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and observed signs of impairment.

She was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and issued a citation for the suspicion of DUI.
