Threat closes Orleans Elementary School

ORLEANS — Police say a threat closed a local elementary school today.

According to Trooper Ian Alford, the Vermont State Police became aware of a threat made at Orleans Elementary School on May 24.

Police were contacted by school staff who informed them they received a report of an alleged threat made to the school by a student.

“The state police takes all reports of school threats seriously and initiated a response that involved coordinating with school officials and community resources, and identifying and speaking to the parties involved,” Trooper Alford said in a statement.

As a result of the investigation, the school decided to cancel classes today.

The school plans to modify operations Wednesday, June 1.

Authorities say parents and community members can expect to see an increased police presence at the school tomorrow.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing, police say.

Because of the age of the individual involved in this matter, no further information is available from the state police.
