GEORGIA — A Vermont state trooper was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Georgia yesterday.

The incident took place on I-89 at around 2:30 p.m.

Trooper Andrew Underwood, 39, of Swanton, said he was traveling south when he observed Alexander Zaitouni, 29, of Saint-Laurent, Quebec, traveling ahead of him in the passing lane at a speed in excess of the posted 65 miles-per-hour speed limit.

Underwood caught up to Zaitouni, at which time police say he realized there was a trooper behind him and slowed down.

Underwood then attempted to move into the right lane to go around Zaitouni, before realizing there was a truck in that lane.

In order to avoid colliding with the truck, Underwood moved back into the passing lane and collided with Zaitouni

Police say there were no injuries reported.

Authorities say the crash will be reviewed in accordance with Vermont State Police policy.
