WEATHERSFIELD — A 55-year-old man was charged with animal cruelty following an incident in Weathersfield last Saturday.

State Police say they assisted the Vermont Volunteer Humane Society in recovering a neglected and deprived canine on Comstock Avenue at around 5:40 p.m.

Police say that a female Rottweiler around 1-3 years of age was left outside during freezing temperatures.

Police allege the animal had inadequate shelter, no food or water, and was very underweight.

Humane Officer Sue Skaskiw seized the dog.

The owner of the animal, identified as Nathan C. Abbott, of Weathersfield, was issued a criminal citation and is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charge.
