Tractor-trailer hits vehicle stopped in breakdown lane of I-89, Colchester

COLCHESTER — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer unit in Colchester yesterday.

The crash took place on Interstate 89 at around 8:55 p.m.

According to the report, Elmer De Los Reyes, of Quebec, Canada, was headed north driving the tractor-trailer before the crash, and David J Slowminski, of Plattsburgh, New York, was also headed north when his van overheated.

Slowminski moved into the breakdown lane and called for roadside assistance.

Police say he sat in the breakdown lane for approximately 10 minutes before getting hit.

Reyes hit the rear of Slowminsk with the front right portion of the TT unit.

State police were assisted by Colchester Fire Department and Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department.

Police are still investigating this crash.
