Senior Officer Royce Lancaster awarded 2020 Officer of the Year

NEWPORT — After 23 years of service with the Newport Police, the department recently recognize Senior Officer Royce Lancaster with the Officer of the Year Award in 2020.

Each year, the Newport Police Department gives its Officer of the Year Award to a well-rounded officer who has exceeded the duty requirements of his or her position and has demonstrated community service along with professionalism.

Sr. Officer Lancaster had some high-profile cases in 2020 that required extensive investigations all while maintaining his regular duties.

Chief Travis Bingham says he continues to excel in his community policing efforts and has gained respect throughout the community for these efforts.

Along with his success in 2020 Sr. Officer Lancaster is a Taser Instructor, R.A.D Instructor, Youth Explorer Advisor, and Snowmobile Instructor.

“Our community is fortunate to have you as a member of Newport Police Department,” Chief Bingham said.
