COVENTRY — A 16-year-old driver from Newport Center was taken to the hospital yesterday after a single-vehicle crash in Coventry.

The accident took place on Route 14.

Police say Andrew Matten was headed toward Alderbrook Road in a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck when the vehicle left the roadway.

The truck slid and hit a tree, causing it to roll and come to rest on its roof.

According to a statement issued by police, Matten had his seatbelt on and suffered lacerations to his head and arm.

He was transported to North Country Hospital, where he was treated, and later released.

Newport City Fire and Newport Ambulance, as well as the Newport City Police Department, were all at the scene Thursday morning.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash.
