HOLLAND — A 42-year-old Holland woman will have to serve 15 days in jail for animal cruelty charges, after police found starving and dead goats on her farm last May.

Stacey Lopes, 42, who now lives in Massachusetts, was sentenced after pleading guilty to three charges of cruelty to animals by depriving them of food and water, as well as one felony charge of causing them undue pain.

In May of 2015, authorities met with workers at the farm, located on the Prairie Road in Holland, after they were tipped off about dead and starving goats on the property.

The investigation determined that there were numerous dead goats on the property, along with other animals that were malnourished and living in unsanitary conditions.

A state dairy product specialist who visited the farm told investigators that the animals had no food or water, and over a dozen dead and piled at the end of the barn.

Lopes was sentenced to serve 15 days of a 18-36 month jail term for the crime.

She is also not allowed to own or care for animals as part of the plea agreement.
