Memphremagog Watershed Association Scholarship applications available for local students

Memphremagog Watershed Association Newport VermontNEWPORT — In 2012, The Memphremagog Watershed Association (MWA), a non-profit membership association dedicated to the preservation of the environment and natural beauty of the Memphremagog watershed, began a scholarship program that continues today.

MWA scholarships are intended for students interested in pursuing post-secondary education in the sciences, particularly but not limited to environmental science.

Scholarship applications for 2015 have been distributed to guidance offices and are due by March 30, 2015. This year recipients may be awarded from $500 to $1000.

Eligibility for the scholarship extends to students graduating from any of the high schools in the Memphremagog watershed, including North Country Union High School, Lake Region High School, United Christian Academy, and Craftsbury Academy.

Since 2012, MWA has awarded scholarships ranging from $300 to $1000 to six students from three different high schools residing in five different towns including Westfield, Newport City, Orleans, Albany, and Wolcott.

Scholarship recipients have indicated interests in environmental science, environmental engineering, forestry, biochemistry, and medicine.
