CROMWELL — A local karate instructor has been arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault following a police investigation into allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor student.

The Cromwell Police Department announced the arrest of Orest Markiv, 32, on Monday after receiving a complaint in March about his conduct at Impact Martial Arts, located at 319 Main Street.

Detectives from the Cromwell Police Department’s Detective Bureau launched an extensive investigation into the allegations, which led to Markiv’s arrest.

Markiv, born on Dec. 27, 1991, is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.

He is scheduled to make his court appearance at Middletown Superior Court later today, April 17.
