Tractor-trailer crash shuts down Route 58 in Irasburg

IRASBURG — A tractor-trailer crash shut down Vermont Route 58 in Irasburg on Tuesday.

Police say they were notified of the crash which took place about one mile east of the elementary school, at around 7:30 a.m.

The driver was identified as Maurice Parker, 30, of Pennsylvania, who was alone in the truck at the time.

Parker told police he had been traveling around 30-40 mph at the time and ended up losing control in the snow-covered roadway.

He was headed west and ended up sliding into the ditch, striking several small trees and ending up partly in the eastbound travel lane.

Route 58 was closed from Lake Region Road to Covered Bridge Road for several hours while crews unloaded the contents of the trailer and removed the truck.

Irasburg Fire was on scene directing traffic and providing the tow company with assistance in offloading the contents of the trailer.
