FERDINAND — A 53-year-old truck driver from Quebec suffered minor injuries after hitting a moose on Wednesday in the town of Ferdinand.
Police say Mario Guillemette was traveling on Vermont Route 105 at around 6:30 p.m., when the animal ventured out into the street.
Guillemette was unable to stop in time, striking the moose on the passenger side of the tractor-trailer.
The Brighton Fire Department, Lyndon Rescue and Vermont Fish and Wildlife were dispatched to the scene to assist. Guillemette was treated for minor injuries.
A state hazmat team was also called to assist with leaking fluids from the truck.
The section of roadway where the crash occurred, in the area of the Wenlock railroad crossing and Lewis Pond Road, was temporarily closed while the tractor-trailer was being removed.
The rig had substantial damage to the entire passenger side.
