Police say Brownington man’s death a homicide, stab wound to chest

BROWNINGTON — The death of a 38-year-old man from Brownington back in March has been ruled a homicide.

Today, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner updated the findings in regard to Kevin Smith’s death. They ruled the manner of Smith’s death as a homicide, the cause of death being a stab wound to the chest.

Back in March, police responded to a 911 report of an unresponsive male at a residence on Evansville road in the town of Brownington.

Troopers and Orleans Rescue arrived and found Smith deceased of unknown causes at the time.

The 911 call was made by the homeowner, Jennifer Simard of Brownington. They say Smith had been living at this residence.

Simard had an outstanding arrest warrant for retail theft issued out of Orleans County at the time, and was taken into custody for the warrant when police arrived.

Authorities say they are continuing to investigate Smith’s death and ask anyone with any information to contact the Vermont State Police.

No further information has been released in the case yet.
