IRASBURG — On Wednesday, June 29 at 6 p.m., candidates Matt Dunne, Peter Galbraith, Bruce Lisman, Sue Minter and Phil Scott, the major-party candidates for Vermont governor, have all agreed to take part in a debate in Irasburg.
The event will take place inside a 10,000 square-foot covered riding arena located at 4328 Route 14.
Reporter Jon Margolis, a former Chicago Tribune reporter and current political columnist for VTDigger, who now lives in Barton, will serve as moderator.
The Orleans County Democratic and Republican Committees are co-sponsors of the event.
“I applaud the organizers of this debate,” said Orleans County Republican Committee Chair Chet Greenwood. “It gives the residents of the Northeast Kingdom a unique opportunity to submit questions and be a part of the election process as they listen to the candidates debate the issues concerning Vermonters and especially the NEK.”
Judy Bevans, Orleans County Democratic Committee Chair, welcomed the opportunity for voters to hear from the candidates.
“Bringing unique NEK issues in front of all of the gubernatorial candidates for debate is good for all, clarifying our concerns with the candidates,” Ms. Bevans said. “By hearing their responses, we in turn, become more informed voters. The Orleans County Democratic Committee is pleased and proud to be part of that process.”
The arena has ample free parking, and those who attend are asked to bring along lawn chairs.
“We’ll be comfortable rain or shine,” said the arena’s owner, Kingdom County Forum member Ron Holland.
The Kingdom County Debate’s website http://kingdomcountyforum.org provides an opportunity to submit questions to the candidates in advance of the debate.
The site also provides a map, directions, information about the participants, and opportunities for Kingdom County Debate sponsorship.
