OCEANSIDE — Two Queens women were arrested for allegedly stealing more than $1,500 worth of merchandise from a Victoria’s Secret store in Oceanside, Nassau County police said.
Domenica Rivera Mendieta, 25, and Katherine Cabrera Tapia, 27, were taken into custody on Thursday, March 27 in connection with the Jan. 4 incident.
According to detectives, the women entered Victoria’s Secret at 3527 Long Beach Road at 1 p.m. and concealed merchandise valued at $1,551 in a shopping bag.
The suspects then exited the store without paying for the items, police said.
One of the women had a small infant in a carrier against her body during the alleged theft.
The women fled the scene in a Honda Civic, according to authorities.
Both suspects were charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, while Tapia faces an additional charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
The women were issued appearance tickets returnable on April 11 to First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said further investigation revealed Mendieta has an outstanding warrant of removal pending with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and has been placed into their custody.
