NEWPORT — Community organizations will host a rally to advocate for local health care services in the Northeast Kingdom on April 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Newport Municipal Building.
The event, organized by several groups including NEKO (Northeast Kingdom Organizing), Vermont Workers’ Center and Newport Downtown Development, aims to highlight concerns about preserving accessible healthcare in rural communities.
Plans include speakers sharing personal experiences about local care’s importance, followed by a community march. A free lunch will be provided after the event.
“This rally is more than just an event—it’s a chance for the community to unite, raise their voices, and send a clear message: health care should be local, accessible, and protected for all,” organizers said in their announcement.
Other participating organizations include the Nonviolent Medicaid Army and Northeast Kingdom Collaborative.
