HYANNIS — A 41-year-old Hyannis resident was fatally shot in a downtown parking lot early Sunday, with police quickly apprehending a suspect.
Officers from the Barnstable Police Department responded to the North Street parking lot near Washington Street at approximately 1 a.m. on March 16 after receiving reports of a gunshot.
The first officer on scene found a male victim with a gunshot wound to the head and immediately began life-saving measures.
Hyannis Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police a dark-colored pickup truck fled the area after the shooting.
A Barnstable officer located the vehicle and its driver a short distance from the crime scene.
Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested a 36-year-old Yarmouth resident.
Massachusetts State Police Detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
The suspect was charged with murder and is being held without bail at the Barnstable Police station.
