WOODBURY — A juvenile who escaped from a treatment center was arrested after allegedly breaking into a local liquor store and stealing alcohol, authorities said.
State Trooper DeFeo and Officer Demers responded to a juvenile treatment center at 12:25 a.m. March 12 after reports that a juvenile had jumped from a second-story window and fled into the woods.
An extensive search was conducted involving two separate K9 tracks by state police, thermal imaging by Woodbury Fire Department, and a drone search by Officer Flanagan of Brookfield Police Department, but the juvenile was not initially located.
At 4:16 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Discount Liquors in Woodbury for an alarm activation.
Responding officers discovered a front window had been smashed.
Officer Flanagan, while returning home from the earlier search, encountered the juvenile on Washington Road.
The juvenile had bloody knuckles and appeared heavily intoxicated, according to authorities.
After reviewing surveillance footage from the liquor store, investigators determined the juvenile was recorded at the store before the alarm was triggered.
Police said the juvenile stole approximately $75 worth of alcohol after breaking the window.
The juvenile was issued a summons for third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny.
