Kingston man charged with robbery, criminal mischief after altercation

KINGSTON — Troopers from the State Police Kingston found a 39-year-old woman in need of assistance while patrolling Smith Avenue on March 5 at approximately 9:39 p.m.

The investigation revealed that the woman had been at her residence when a guest, identified as Michael E. Rodriguez, 42, of Connelly, turned initially left and returned to the apartment about 30 minutes later.

Upon his return, Rodriguez became irate and attempted to take the victim’s phone.

A physical struggle ensued, during which Rodriguez forcibly took the phone and later damaged the victim’s laptop.

The victim fled the residence, where police officers located her.

Rodriguez fled the scene shortly after.

A warrant for Rodriguez’s arrest was issued in connection with the incident.

On March 11, Rodriguez turned himself in.

He was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief with Intent to Damage Property, and Robbery in the 3rd Degree.

Rodriguez was arraigned at the Ulster County Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail.

A return court date is scheduled for March 12 at 8:30 a.m. in the City of Kingston Court.
