WEBSTER — Massachusetts State Police troopers and Webster police detectives arrested a fugitive wanted in North Carolina on firearms charges Monday morning.

William Lambert, 34, of Whiteville, North Carolina, had escaped custody and was wanted on a fully extraditable warrant for the charge of felon in possession of a firearm, authorities said.

Lambert, a federally documented and National Crime Information Center-listed Folk Nation gang member, has several firearm convictions.

Investigators with the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) received information that he may have fled North Carolina and was hiding in Webster.

VFAS troopers, along with Webster police detectives, conducted surveillance at 64-66 North Main St. after determining Lambert was at that location.

At about 11:10 a.m., officers spotted Lambert behind the building.

When they moved in, he attempted to flee on foot but was captured after a brief pursuit, police said.

Lambert was transported to Dudley District Court, where he was held as a fugitive from justice.

He was later taken to the Worcester County House of Corrections, where he will be detained pending extradition to North Carolina.
