DANVILLE — A police pursuit Saturday night through multiple towns ended with a suspect being located and apprehended by a K-9 unit inside his home, authorities said.
At approximately 7:18 p.m., Officer Capsalis and K-9 Crue attempted to stop a white Subaru while patrolling State Route 111 in Danville, police said.
The driver did not stop, leading officers on a pursuit through Danville and Hampstead.
While turning onto Brown Hill Road, the vehicle traveled in the wrong lane and nearly struck oncoming traffic, according to police.
The suspect, identified as Erik Simkins, drove to his residence at 30 Checkerberry Road in Hampstead and entered his garage, police said.
Officer Capsalis ordered Simkins to surrender, but he refused and barricaded himself inside the home.
The Hampstead Police Department established a perimeter around the residence while Officer Capsalis obtained a warrant for his arrest.
A tactical plan was developed, and an entry team entered through the garage, police said.
K-9 Crue conducted a search of the home and located Simkins hiding in a basement room, where he was peacefully apprehended, officials said.
No injuries were reported.
Simkins was charged with disobeying a police officer, reckless operation, and resisting arrest, with additional charges possible, police said.
He was transported to the Rockingham County Jail and held on preventive detention.
His arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 24 at the 10th Circuit Court District Division in Brentwood.
The Danville Police Department thanked officers from Hampstead, Kingston, East Kingston, Sandown, and Plaistow for their assistance.
