NORWELL — Police officers rushed to two separate locations on Longwater Drive Wednesday afternoon following reports of possible active shooter incidents, which later were determined to be false alarms.
The first call came in at 1:39 p.m. from a building at 120 Longwater Drive, where an intercom message had announced an active shooter on the premises, prompting an immediate lockdown.
Employees, however, reported no signs of an active shooter either inside or outside the building.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the building and surrounding area but found no evidence of a threat.
The investigation suggests that the incident may have been caused by an employee accidentally triggering a “code silver” alert, which is designed to notify of an active shooter situation.
Less than 30 minutes later, at 2:04 p.m., a second active shooter alert was reported at 104 Longwater Drive.
The caller cited hearing “loud bangs” and was aware of the ongoing situation at the nearby address.
This building, too, was locked down and searched by authorities, who again found no threat.
As a precautionary measure, all schools in the vicinity were placed on lockdown until police could secure the area.
After examining both sites, officers confirmed there was no active threat to the community.
Investigations into the incidents at both locations on Longwater Drive continue, with the police stating there is no danger to the public at this time.
Additional information will be released as the inquiry progresses.
