Portland police arrest man for $25,000 boat theft

PORTLAND — A boat theft suspect was apprehended on January 12 just after 8 a.m., when a boat owner reported his sailboat stolen from Fore Points Marina.

Portland Police Department, in coordination with the United States Coast Guard and Maine Marine Patrol, located the vessel offshore.

The USCG boarded the boat, detained the suspect on board, and towed the damaged vessel, valued at $25,000, back to the marina.

Jesse Drinkwater, 43, of Portland has been arrested in connection with the theft.

He faces multiple charges including Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer, Theft by Unauthorized Use of Property, Criminal Trespass, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, and Aggravated Criminal Mischief.

Portland Police expressed gratitude to the USCG and Maine Marine Patrol for their assistance.
