WORCESTER — A 71-year-old man was struck and killed by a car on Lake Ave Wednesday evening, prompting an investigation by the Worcester Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.
At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 10, police officers were called to the vicinity of 265 Lake Ave following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, they found the elderly man with serious injuries.
A nurse already at the scene provided medical assistance until the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The initial investigation suggests that the victim was crossing Lake Ave from east to west after getting off a bus when a northbound vehicle hit him.
The driver did not see the pedestrian in time to avoid the collision and remained at the scene following the incident.
The police’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
No further details have been released at this time.
