CONCORD — New Hampshire State Police were dispatched to over 100 weather-related incidents across the state on Saturday due to treacherous winter conditions that caused slick and snow-covered roads.
From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 11, troopers attended to 69 crashes, including a pickup truck rollover on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Nashua.
The majority of the collisions were reported in Rockingham, Hillsborough, and Strafford counties, fortunately resulting in no injuries.
Additionally, state police responded to 29 vehicles that slid off the road and provided assistance to nine other motorists.
Speed limits on major roadways, including Interstate 95, the F.E. Everett Turnpike, and Interstate 93, were reduced during the snowfall.
In light of more winter weather expected in the upcoming weeks, State Police urge drivers to exercise caution.
Authorities advise maintaining safe driving speeds for increased reaction time and keeping a proper distance from other cars, especially plow trucks, to avoid accidents.
Motorists are also reminded to adhere to state laws, such as giving ample room to first responders at roadside emergencies and removing snow and ice from their vehicles before driving.
Under RSA 265:37-a, the Move Over law, drivers must slow down or change lanes when approaching stopped emergency vehicles, while RSA 265:79-b, known as Jessica’s Law, mandates the removal of snow and ice from cars, with fines and penalties for non-compliance.
