BETHEL — A multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 5 and Route 2 left one driver injured and resulted in significant damage to several vehicles on Jan. 11.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, along with Bethel Fire Department, Bethel Rescue and the Maine Department of Transportation, responded around 9:14 a.m. to the crash scene.

According to Sheriff Christopher Wainwright, Fiona Hume, 22, of Boscawen, Massachusetts, was driving a 2016 Volvo northbound on Route 5 when she failed to stop at the intersection, sliding into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.

Hume’s Volvo, which carried three adult passengers who were unharmed, sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

The tractor-trailer, driven by Scott Leo, 57, of Jackman, Maine, also incurred significant damage and was removed from the intersection.

A third vehicle, a 2016 Toyota Rav 4 operated by 19-year-old Meagan Lunney of Bethel, collided with the skidding tractor-trailer rig following the initial impact.

Lunney’s Toyota sustained minor damage and was operable post-collision.

All vehicles involved were cleared, and the roadway was reopened.

Snowy road conditions, driver inattention, and speed are considered contributing factors to the accident, as stated by Major Dan Thompson of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
