LEBANON — Police officers in Lebanon rescued three residents stranded on the roof of a burning apartment building late Thursday night after a fire broke out, trapping them.
The Lebanon Police Department and Lebanon Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 39 Mechanic Street around 10:59 p.m., following a 911 call about the blaze.
Upon arrival, officers found the building’s exterior stairwell engulfed in flames, preventing the occupants from descending to safety.
With no time to spare, officers used an innovative approach by climbing atop a nearby vehicle, leveraging it as an impromptu ladder to reach the individuals on the roof.
Their prompt and clever response enabled them to rescue all three occupants without injury.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and conducted a comprehensive search of the premises to ensure no residual hotspots remained.
Although the apartment sustained considerable damage, all residents were unharmed, thanks to the first responders’ efforts.
The New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
The episode underscores the flexibility and commitment of Lebanon’s first responders, whose training prepares them to handle a diverse range of emergencies.
The actions taken by the Lebanon Police Department, in coordination with the fire department, showcase the strong partnership between the two services, emphasizing their collective dedication to the community’s safety.
