1 min read

BOURNE — At approximately 12:43 p.m. on Jan. 9, officers from the Bourne Police Department rushed to the Cape Cod Canal following a report of a woman struggling in the water.

Upon their arrival, officers confirmed the presence of the woman who was unable to reach shore unaided.

The rescue effort was challenging due to the woman’s distance from the shore and the prevailing tide.

However, with the support of multiple agencies, the 31-year-old Wareham resident was successfully rescued from the canal and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Initial unverified reports suggested there might have been a second individual in the water.

A thorough investigation by the involved agencies concluded that there were no other persons in distress.

The incident has been determined not to be related to any criminal activities.

The Bourne Police Department extends its gratitude to the Bourne Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, U.S. Army Corps, Harbormaster, U.S. Coast Guard, Wareham Police, and Wareham EMS for their invaluable assistance in the rescue operation.
