Somerville police report string of crimes, including break-ins and assault

SOMERVILLE — Police in Somerville have been responding to a series of criminal incidents in the first week of January, including break-ins, an assault, and a weapons threat, according to reports from the Somerville Police Department.

In the early hours of Jan. 1, police were called to a construction site on Medford St after an alarm went off around 3:20 a.m. Officers found that an individual had entered the site through an opening in the gate, with a lock and chain discovered on the ground.

Despite the break-in, no items were reported missing from the site.

Two days later, on Jan. 3, at approximately 5:49 p.m., officers responded to an assault at the intersection of Broadway & Minnesota Ave.

They found a male victim bleeding from the face who reported being punched by another male.

The following evening, on Jan. 4, Somerville Police received a weapons call from the parking lot of 105 Middlesex Ave around 11:12 p.m. The victim told officers he was tailgated by a red crossover vehicle.

After both parties exited their vehicles and exchanged words, a male from the suspect vehicle showed what seemed to be a firearm in his waistband before fleeing towards Foley St.

On Jan. 5, just before 6 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Sunset Rd for a report of a past breaking and entering.

The homeowner, who had been away for the holidays, returned to find money missing from her room.

Police have identified a suspect in this case.

Aside from these incidents, Somerville Police have also noted other crimes including three bicycle thefts, two cases of motor vehicle vandalism, three motor vehicle thefts, one car break-in, and one package theft.

The police are investigating all incidents and have not yet released information on arrests or charges.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
