LEWISTON — Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place Wednesday night on Howard St., where several shots were fired, resulting in property damage but no reported injuries.
At around 7:25 p.m., Lewiston Police Department received multiple calls of gunfire emanating from the intersection of Walnut St. and Howard St. Officers who responded to the scene were able to determine that the shooting occurred in the roadway outside 78 Howard St.
They found numerous shell casings and learned from witnesses that a vehicle was heard speeding away immediately after the shots were fired.
Although it appears no one was hurt, a building on Walnut St. was hit by bullets, causing damage to the structure.
In the wake of the shooting, Howard St. was temporarily closed between Walnut and Pine streets as law enforcement collected evidence and canvassed the area.
Authorities are now seeking the public’s assistance in the ongoing investigation.
