WESTPORT — Westport Police Department is alerting residents about fraudulent text messages claiming to be from EZDriveMA, the state’s electronic tolling program, advising recipients of an outstanding balance that requires prompt payment.
Authorities have confirmed that these messages are part of a phishing scam.
EZDriveMA does not contact customers via text message to collect toll payments.
The police department has been in touch with state officials, who emphasized that all communication regarding toll balances would be conducted through official channels, not through unsolicited texts.
Residents who receive such messages are urged to verify their authenticity and not to provide any personal information or make payments in response to these fraudulent texts.
The Westport Police Department is actively investigating the scam and advises the public to remain vigilant against similar deceptive practices.
