Police investigate hoax stabbing report in Montpelier

MONTPELIER — A fake report of a stabbing on Main Street prompted a rapid emergency response from local authorities on Jan. 7.

At around 3:10 p.m., Montpelier Police Department and Montpelier Fire Department were dispatched to a business downtown after receiving a detailed report of a stabbing incident.

The emergency services conducted a thorough search of the location and the surrounding area but found no victims or evidence of the reported stabbing.

Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

An investigation has been launched to trace the origins of the hoax call and to hold the responsible parties accountable.
