Two-vehicle crash in Rutland leads to pending violation complaint

RUTLAND — A two-vehicle collision occurred on N Grove Street, near Pinnacle Ridge Road, in Rutland Town, resulting in moderate damage to one vehicle and a minor injury to one driver, according to Vermont State Police.

The incident took place on Dec. 24, at approximately 12:13 p.m., under cloudy skies and on wet but clear road conditions.

Ronald Porter, 68, of Pittsford, was driving a 2023 Jeep Gladiator northbound on N Grove Street when he attempted to pass a 2020 Volvo HO97 operated by James Johnson, 61, of Brandon, also traveling north.

Porter reportedly struck the snowplow attached to the front of Johnson’s Volvo during the passing maneuver.

The collision caused moderate damage to the rear right door and tire of Porter’s Jeep, which subsequently came to rest in an uncontrolled position within a nearby parking lot.

Johnson experienced pain in his right arm and shoulder but no hospitalization was reported for either party.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Vermont State Police have indicated that a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint is pending as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
