BROWNINGTON — Two Orleans County men pleaded not guilty to felony charges stemming from a May burglary where multiple firearms were stolen from a Brownington residence.
John Cubit, 38, of Irasburg and Ronald A. Morin, 51, of Glover face charges of burglary, grand larceny, and unlawful mischief. Judge Thibault released Cubit on a $1,000 unsecured appearance bond while setting Morin’s bail at $5,000.
According to Orleans County Sheriff’s Department affidavits, the break-in was discovered by a lawn maintenance worker who found the house ransacked and alerted the owners’ daughter. Deputies responding to the scene found evidence of attempts to breach a safe and discovered five shotguns missing.
Investigators later found suspected fentanyl paraphernalia near the property. During questioning, Cubit allegedly admitted to entering the house with Morin and taking firearms, though he claimed a limited role in the theft.
The total value of stolen items exceeds $5,000, according to court documents. A third female suspect failed to appear for arraignment.
