East Greenwich woman arrested on multiple fraud charges

EAST GREENWICH — In a late-night operation, Rhode Island State Troopers apprehended Jennifer Garnett, 47, of East Greenwich, on multiple charges related to financial fraud and false representations.

At 10:22 p.m. on Friday, Garnett was taken into custody without incident at her residence on 54 King Street.

She faces charges including an affidavit and arrest warrant for obtaining property by false pretenses amounting to more than $10,000, providing false documents to an agent, employee, or public official, and fraudulently obtaining public assistance exceeding $500.

These charges stem from an investigation led by the State Police – Financial Crimes Unit.

Additionally, Garnett had an outstanding Third District Bench Warrant for failure to appear at a pre-trial conference concerning an original charge of writing fraudulent checks, a case managed by the North Kingstown Police Department.

The arrest resulted from collaborative efforts between the Financial Crimes Unit and Smithfield Police Department, who located Garnett.

Following her arrest, Garnett was transported to State Police Headquarters for processing.

She was detained and is scheduled for arraignment at the Third District Court on Saturday morning.
