One person dies in Canaan residential fire

CANAAN — One person has died following a residential fire in Canaan, New Hampshire, officials announced Tuesday.

The fire broke out at 1126 Route 4 on Sunday at 11:26 p.m., according to New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P.

Toomey, Canaan Fire Department Chief Bill Bellion, and Canaan Police Department Chief Ryan Porter.

Responding firefighters found a porch attached to the home fully engulfed in flames.

A male occupant who suffered injuries while exiting the home was provided immediate aid and transported to an area hospital.

The injured man, identified as 61-year-old Ricky A. Bailey, was later transferred to a Massachusetts hospital where he died on Monday.

The cause and manner of death are pending determination by the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Authorities are actively investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

Fire Marshal Toomey emphasized the importance of working smoke alarms and having a home fire escape plan.
