SPRINGFIELD — Members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) and Emergency Services Unit (ESU), guided by Captain Brian Keenan, Sergeant Jaime Bruno, and Sergeant David Robillard, together with the U.S.
Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, apprehended 37-year-old Luis Colon on Wednesday at around 12:00 p.m. in connection with a shooting incident on Stafford Street the previous afternoon.
Police responded to a call at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday at an apartment building on the 100 block of Stafford Street, where they found an adult female with gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to Baystate with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Following an investigation led by the Springfield Police Detective Bureau under Captain Trent Duda, detectives identified Colon as a suspect Tuesday night and obtained an arrest warrant.
Colon was arrested near the intersection of Frank B. Murray Street and Main Street on Wednesday.
During the arrest, detectives seized a loaded firearm and drugs from him.
Colon faces multiple charges, including firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, possession of a Class A drug – subsequent offense, and possession of a Class B drug – subsequent offense.
Additionally, Colon had two arrest warrants for several offenses, including assault and battery by discharging a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm), stalking, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property less than $1,200, armed burglary, and larceny under $1,200.
