NEW BEDFORD — A fugitive’s apprehension on Dec. 17 has resulted in the seizure of a firearm and significant amounts of narcotics, marking the second such incident within a week, the New Bedford Police Department reported.
Detective Jordan DaSilva, working with the U.S. Marshal Task Force alongside troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, located 29-year-old Marc Anthony Suarez at a residence at 643 County St., apartment #3N.
Suarez, with an active warrant for gun-related charges from Bristol Superior Court, was the target of the operation.
As officers surrounded the residence, items wrapped in white cloth were seen being discarded from the apartment window.
Upon entering the apartment, Suarez was found alone and detained without incident.
The discarded items were later identified as fentanyl, “crack” cocaine, and a loaded Glock 19 handgun with 14 rounds of ammunition.
A comprehensive search of the apartment led to the discovery of additional drugs, packaging materials, a digital scale, and $1,690 in cash.
Authorities seized over 140 grams of cocaine and 39 grams of fentanyl in total.
With previous convictions for firearm possession in 2022 and intent to distribute a class “A” substance in 2019, Suarez now faces several charges, including possession of a large-capacity firearm and ammunition without a license, trafficking over 100 grams of cocaine, and trafficking over 36 grams of fentanyl.
This arrest follows the recent apprehension of Jesse Soares, 41, from 16 Bayberry Rd., last Saturday, who was caught with a pistol, 660 grams of cocaine, and 88 grams of fentanyl.
