WAREHAM — A high-speed pursuit early Sunday morning ended with the arrest of a Plymouth man known to the local police and wanted on multiple felony warrants.
At approximately 2:41 a.m., Wareham officers spotted a vehicle with out-of-state plates driven by Lashii Ortiz, 29, on Onset Avenue.
The vehicle was pulled over in the Onset Center Business District, where officers attempted to address Ortiz’s active warrants from Plymouth and Wareham District Courts.
Ortiz, who was wanted for offenses including armed robbery, assault and battery on a person over 60, possession with intent to distribute Class A and B substances, among other charges, attempted to flee the scene.
He nearly hit a police cruiser while speeding away.
Despite two tires being deflated by “Stop Sticks” deployed by officers, Ortiz continued driving erratically at speeds over 100 mph.
The chase extended onto Route 25 and Interstate 495 before Massachusetts State Police and other local agencies intervened.
Eventually, Ortiz was apprehended in Brockton and transported back to Wareham Police Headquarters for booking.
In addition to his outstanding warrants, Ortiz now faces charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless operation, and failure to stop for police.
His bail has been set at $12,000.
Ortiz is scheduled for arraignment at Wareham District Court on Monday, Dec. 16.
