HARWICH — Residents and law enforcement officials in Harwich reported observing multiple unidentified drones flying over the area on the evening of Dec. 12, prompting investigations by local, state, and federal agencies.
At approximately 9 p.m., a Harwich resident contacted the police after noticing 10 to 15 bright drones hovering over her home.
Despite their brightness, she reported that the drones were silent and remained visible for over an hour.
Earlier that night, around 6 p.m., an off-duty officer from the Harwich Police Department also witnessed similar drone activity in the vicinity of the Public Safety Complex on Sisson Road.
The Harwich Police Department has since reported the incidents to the Boston FBI and the Massachusetts State Police and is collaborating with these agencies to determine the nature and purpose of the drone flights.
These recent sightings in Harwich resemble a series of drone activities reported over the past few weeks across New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.
Chief of Police Kevin M. Considine assured that the department is taking the situation seriously and is committed to working with state and federal partners to address community concerns and ensure public safety.
