CAMPTON — A traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase on Dec. 11 when a Campton Police officer attempted to pull over a 2008 BMW for a motor vehicle violation at about 2:58 p.m.
Jeremy Napoleone, 20, of Wakefield, refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, ignoring traffic signals and endangering public safety.
The pursuit, which began on NH Route 49, continued onto Interstate 93 but was called off shortly after due to the risk posed to the public by the vehicle’s reckless driving.
Law enforcement officials broadcast the vehicle’s description and last known direction, alerting agencies across the state.
An hour later, officers in neighboring Carroll County spotted the car and attempted to stop it.
Napoleone abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was captured shortly thereafter.
Napoleone is now being held without bail on preventative detention and faces multiple charges in both Campton and Carroll County.
The charges from Campton Police include operating after habitual offender certification, disobeying an officer, reckless conduct, three counts of reckless operation, illegal passing, operating an uninspected vehicle, failure to display plates, and driving with defective equipment.
Campton Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the reckless driving to contact them at (603) 726-8874.
