Two arrested in Nantucket cocaine bust

NANTUCKET — Two people were arrested Tuesday morning after police executed a search warrant and seized cocaine and drug paraphernalia from their apartment, authorities said.

Julian Contreras Zabala, 41, and Leydy Laura Pena De Reyes, 31, both of 1 Gooseberry Place, Apartment 1A, were charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to the Nantucket Police Department.

Officers from the department’s detective unit and patrol division, assisted by a K9 unit from the Yarmouth Police Department, conducted the search at 6:48 a.m. on Dec. 10.

They discovered what is believed to be cocaine, along with packaging materials and a scale, police said.

Lt. Angus MacVicar, public information officer for the Nantucket Police, said the arrests followed an extensive investigation by the detective unit.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident, MacVicar said.

He did not disclose the quantity of drugs seized or provide additional details about the investigation.
