BANGOR — A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near mile-marker 181 left a Massachusetts man in serious condition early Monday morning.

Maine State Police responded to reports of a crash at approximately 6:55 a.m., where they discovered several motorists attending to 25-year-old Kenneth Cartledge of Beverly, Massachusetts.

Cartledge, who was found lying on the roadway after being ejected from his vehicle, was conscious and speaking when troopers arrived.

Bangor Fire and EMS quickly took over care, transporting Cartledge to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

He is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

According to the preliminary investigation, Cartledge was traveling southbound in his 2002 Ford F-250 when he lost control, crossed the median into the northbound lanes, and overturned.

Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The vehicle came to rest on its side, blocking traffic in both northbound lanes and causing significant delays including a full road closure.

Investigators believe that Cartledge was driving at a speed that was unsafe for the wintry road conditions.

Troop I received assistance from the Northern Field Troop, Bangor Fire Department, and Union Street Towing in managing the scene.

The Maine State Police have issued a reminder to all drivers to exercise caution and adjust their speeds to match the road conditions, especially during the winter months.
