MERRIMACK — A multi-vehicle collision on the F.E. Everett Turnpike resulted in the death of a woman and multiple injuries, causing extensive traffic delays on Thursday afternoon.
At 12:55 p.m. on Dec. 8, New Hampshire State Police and the Merrimack Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to a crash site near Exit 12 on the northbound side of the turnpike.
Upon arrival, officials discovered a scene of devastation with several vehicles sustaining significant damage.
The initial investigation suggests that a southbound white Dodge Ram pickup truck abruptly veered across the median into the northbound traffic, colliding with a brown GMC Sierra and a white Nissan Versa.
Wanda Navarro, 63, from Brimfield, Massachusetts, a passenger in the Dodge Ram, was transported to Elliot Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The Dodge’s driver, James Navarro, 69, also from Brimfield, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Another passenger in the GMC sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, though their condition is not life-threatening.
The crash led to the closure of all northbound lanes and the southbound left lane for approximately three hours, as emergency crews worked on investigation and cleanup.
While the crash remains under investigation, no charges have been filed at this time.
State Police are urging witnesses or those with relevant information to contact Trooper Abigail Wells at (603) 223-4381 or via email at [email protected].
