Man charged with DUI, drug possession after crash in Dummerston

DUMMERSTON — On Dec. 8, Vermont State Police arrested a 44-year-old Putney man on charges of driving under the influence and drug possession following a single-vehicle accident on US Route 5.

Derek R. Johnson was operating a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta that veered off the road and crashed.

Upon their arrival at the scene around 1:59 p.m., troopers suspected Johnson was impaired.

He was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for treatment, where he was found to be in possession of cocaine and fentanyl.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on Feb. 4 at 8:30 a.m. to face the charges.

After being cited, he was released back to the hospital for further medical care.
