Police resolve Sagamore Beach standoff, man in custody

BOURNE — At approximately 7:32 p.m., Bourne Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Old Plymouth Rd in Sagamore Beach where a male was reported to be in mental health distress and armed.

Family members, including a young child, were inside the home during the incident.

Upon arrival, officers successfully evacuated the family to safety, while the male suspect remained barricaded inside the house.

The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Special Weapons and Tactics Team was called to assist in the standoff.

Negotiators worked for about two hours to communicate with the individual.

Eventually, the 47-year-old male exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

He was subsequently transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Authorities reported no injuries from the ordeal and mentioned the recovery of two firearms with ammunition near the location where the man had been during the standoff.

Charges are expected to be filed against the individual for unlawful possession of a firearm and other criminal offenses.

The Bourne Police Department expressed gratitude to the Cape Cod Regional Special Weapons and Tactics Team, Bourne Fire/Rescue, Emergency Services personnel, and the public for their cooperation and patience, which were crucial in reaching a peaceful resolution.
