BOSTON — A routine traffic stop in Roxbury led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man on drug charges after Boston Police officers recovered 16 grams of crack cocaine early Saturday morning.
At about 1:20 a.m., on Dec. 7, officers from the B-2 Roxbury division noticed a car with excessive window tint on Dudley Street.
They initiated a stop near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard using their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.
During the stop, officers discovered that the front passenger, Jashaun Benalfew of Roxbury, was not wearing his seatbelt.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s registration was revoked, necessitating a tow.
A check on the occupants’ identifications found that Benalfew had an active arrest warrant.
Upon being asked to exit the vehicle, Benalfew was handcuffed.
Officers searched him and found a large plastic bag believed to contain crack cocaine, later confirmed to weigh roughly sixteen grams.
Benalfew was arrested on the outstanding warrant from Suffolk Superior Court, which included charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Ammunition, a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License.
He now faces additional charges, including Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B drugs.
He is set to be arraigned at Roxbury District Court.
The driver of the vehicle provided valid registration and received a Massachusetts Uniform Citation.
