NEWPORT — Governor Phil Scott has appointed Newport Mayor Linda Joy Sullivan to the Vermont State Workforce Development Board, which advises on workforce education and training initiatives.
A governor’s representative, in extending the invitation to serve, cited Sullivan’s diverse background: “Your vast experience in a number of areas – aviation, law, finance, local government, human services, and more – should help us sharpen strategy on creating better symbiosis amongst multiple system actors.”
Sullivan, who previously served on the House Commerce Committee, brings extensive professional experience to the role.
“I would really like to see us advance strategies that not only increase the take home pay of Vermonters but create new and exciting career opportunities that will help us retain the younger elements of our workforce,” Sullivan said.
The mayor emphasized the importance of tapping into Vermont’s existing talent pool while developing new opportunities to prevent young workers from leaving the state.
“I look forward to working with the professionals on this Board and I thank the Governor for his continued confidence in my abilities to assist Vermont on these important issues,” Sullivan said.
The board works with the Governor and Commissioner of Labor to develop comprehensive workforce training programs throughout Vermont.
