DOUGLAS — The Douglas Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash after a car was found on fire Tuesday evening.
At approximately 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, the department received reports of a motor vehicle on fire in the area of 176 SE Main Street.
Responding officers, along with fire personnel, discovered a 2018 Ford Edge off the eastbound lane, fully engulfed in flames.
After extinguishing the fire, authorities located a male occupant inside the vehicle.
He had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation suggests that the vehicle was traveling south on Southeast Main Street when it veered off the road and struck a tree.
The Douglas Police Department, CEMLEC Crash Reconstruction Unit, and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are jointly investigating the cause of the crash.
